If you noticed the one image in color, there is a reason for this.
His name is Tom O'Connell and he is a WWII veteran who served and was shot in both legs during the beach landing of Anzio, Italy in 1944. He was 19 years old at the time.
It's so you see the purple pin on his hat correctly.
